Weekend Reading: A Foreign Country

We had to invent tasks over the weekend to keep ourself from blazing through A Foreign Country, the satisfying new spy thriller from the thoroughly reliable Charles Cumming.  Cumming, a posh boy who went to U. Edinburgh which makes you wonder about his A levels or unless there’s a posh quota at Cambridge which is quite possible in this meritocratic age but still he took a First at Edinburgh, has the thriller thing down pat which is nice to know as he is cranking them out at a good clip.  This one’s about an indiscretion in the past of the lady who’s about to run MI6.  Treacherous frogs have it in for the woman.  Fortunately her loyal friend Thomas Kell is available to sort things out even though he’s been unfairly canned from the agency.

Recommended with pleasure.
