Weekend Reading After a Fashion

We wasted a couple of perfectly good hours reading the new Jeffrey Archer, our first.  What drivel.  Barbara Cartland for post menopausal Tory gents.  God help us, he says it’s the first of a Galsworthyesque saga.

Much better use of time even though it kept us up way way past our bedtime was Case Histories, the new adaptation of the most excellent Kate Atkinson series featuring the newly-rich private eye Jackson Brodie on PBS Masterpiece Sunday night.  Jason Isaacs, who plays Jackson, was excellent, but he was just first among equals.  It’s filmed in Edinburgh, still one of the five most beautiful cities in the world.  Worth watching on the laptop if you missed it.

And Kate Atkinson, as we have said, is a remarkably fine and funny crime writer.
