The Mercantile Bar

Occupying the space that is today Strauss's, The Mercantile Bar was one classy establishment . . . one can almost smell the cigars and rye.

The Mechanics Institute in San Francisco has a saloon so why shouldn’t the Mercantile? Apparently we once did, downstairs.  Thanks to the non-blogger’s nephew Tom for this glimpse into the past–particularly appropriate as we marinate in Mercantile history at today’s Annual Meeting.  -Ed Scripsi
