So Much for That

We didn’t read the international best-seller We Need To Talk About Kevin because we usually pick out books at the last minute on the way out the door, often in a panic lest we find ourselves with nothing to read other than a detergent box, and We Need etc. has never been on the shelf at the right minute, so we weren’t prepared for the hard –hitting writing that distinguishes So Much For That by Lionel Shriver who wrote the Kevin book.  Dag.  This woman (she changed her name to Lionel when she was a kid) has got brains and taste and nerve.  We would put her up there with Louise Dean if we had to sort things out that way.  We would tell you what it’s about, but it might scare you off, which is the last thing we want to do.  We will say that the late Ross Feld would recognize her as someone working his acreage, someone capable of taking over the farm were he not careful.

Read it.
