Don’t worry, Nemo and Ed. I mention bikes in the last paragraph.

Hearty congratulations to my brother (NOT pictured above), whose mustache was recently recognized as the third most splendid in the Tampa Bay area.  Needless to say, the entire De Plume family is just bursting with pride.

This mustache didn’t just sprout up overnight, of course.  It began last year as part of his sweeping “Lookin’ Fine in ’09” initiative.  I say sweeping, because the “Lookin’ Fine…” project (which is ongoing) also involves, among other old timey affectations,  wearing a Windsor-knotted tie, jacket (usually tweed), and waistcoat everyday, shaving with a straight razor, and always cocking his eyebrow rakishly for photographs.

As anyone who has ever been there knows, wearing tweed in the sweltering Tampa summer is no small thing, so he is to be admired for his tenacity and perspiration control as well as his mustache.  In fact, the only thing I can think of that would improve the “Lookin’ Fine…” project (and the only way I could think of to give this post its requisite Bike Month theme) would be if it were to include taking part in the burgeoning “wearing tweed and biking” movement.  But, given the aforementioned swelter, I understand why he’s sticking with his Honda.
