Jean Springer

To its everlasting credit, the Cincinnati Enquirer has generously (here, and here) covered the story of Jean Springer’s receipt of the Congressional Gold Medal for her service as a WASP in WWII. Jean Springer was already something of a hero here for having revived the Mercantile Library as its director. She did that library-reviving the same way she flew planes, having a good time and being the life of the party without making a big deal of all the work she was doing or calling attention to how useful it was. The country is in her debt, and so is the city of Cincinnati.
