You know that situation wherein your friend tells you that he (or she) has finally gotten out of that terrible relationship, so you spend a few hours telling him (or her) exactly how much you disliked his (or her) former partner, only to find out a few days later that the couple has gotten back together?
Well, a whole raft of authors and agents are suddenly in a very similar situation now that Kirkus Reviews is back in business, after having been purchased by the owner of the Indiana Pacers.
As we’ve previously reported, Kirkus went under a few months ago, leading to an extended round of fist pumping and “woo woo”ing from writers and their agents who felt they or their clients had been wronged by the notoriously difficult-to-please pre-publication review service in the past. Now that Kirkus is back- presumably with a vengeance- I can imagine a series of hurried and clearly insincere phone calls between agents and Kirkus folk about how, well, you know, Kirkus wasn’t really that bad once you got to know it, and how they’d gotten carried away and said some things they didn’t mean before because, hey, it looked like things were, well, you know…
