Big Chic and Stacked

A number of Stacked readers have suggested they might relieve the blogload with a guest entry, but only one – that’s right, one – has come forward, blogeresse Big Chic who has the following important announcement:

Picture1On September 17th when the author Chris Bohjalian comes to town, we will be meeting under the big tent at the Taft Museum of Art (as the hammering still precludes entry into the usual reading room venue).  That evening the Chic.lits (total tongue in chic) are flocking together to sponsor the 2009 entry in the Modern Novel Series. We think of ourselves as chic-literati.

Let’s set some ground rules before we all fly off in a tizzy. This is not to be confused with “Chick Lit” – enough said.

Our Chic.lits mission focuses on modern novels, as in new – and it is a new way to cover the expense of bringing 2689_bohjalian_chrisin writers to lecture at the library and to meet a great group of readers from across the city.

As part of this effort we have a pre-party in Hyde Park for the Chics (old & new) which includes a fun “Literary Raffle” and a lot of great stuff is up for grabs. That evening Dear Leader (Albert – not Kim Jong Il) is leading a book discussion and we are raffling off, signed books, lunch with “Dr. Know”, and literary-themed baskets, as well as a hard-hat tour of the library’s facelift-in-progress!

We also wonder what will it be like when 60 very bright, well read, women gather to discuss one book – and will Skeletons at the Feast (Bohjalian’s latest book) generate hunger or complaint? And will there be any Cross-Chic/ers who plan on crashing?

Have someone you think would enjoy the activities? Email Each sponsorship costs $100 but includes the parties, raffle and entrance into the Taft event – an 80.00 tax donation. How cool is that?
