“… the real problem is not lies but people believing them.”

Documentarian Errol Morris, (director of Standard Operating Procedure, The Thin Blue Line, The Fog of WarFast, Cheap, and Out of Control, etc) has a new two part essay on his New york Times blog about lying.  Like most of his work, it is well worth checking out.

By the way, in addition to being probably one of the best directors in the world, and almost certainly one of the best documentarians, Morris is the inventor of the Interrotron.

Also by the way, Ricky Jay, the guy Morris interviews in his lying piece, is awesome.
