Reza Aslan

reza_smallThe scholarly writers I like to read are often the ones that look very uncomfortable on television.  Egg head types, you might say.  Your “too busy thinking and writing to have  poise, or polish, or even the ability to appear in public without drooling on themselves” types. On the other hand, folks that look smooth under the klieg lights and have lots of catchy slogans often write books that I don’t particularly want to read.  So imagine my surprise when I saw Reza Aslan, author the fantastic No God But God, on the Daily Show last week, and he was smart and lucid, yet had the look of someone not at all uncomfortable with being in the public eye.  I understand some people even think he’s kind of dreamy.

Anyway, don’t let his charm and good looks fool you.  No God But God is one of the best nonfiction books I’ve read in the past few years, and I suspect his new book is probably pretty great too.
