ITEM: Seems New Yorker book review section regular John Updike fancies himself a novelist. He’s just released “The Widows of Eastwick,” some sort of “Witches of Eastwick” fan fiction, no doubt. Only time will tell whether he can write better than his literary victims, but color me skeptical.
TRIVIA FACT: Updike also wrote a series of children’s books in the 1970s about a lovable flop eared rascal named Rabbit.
