Memo to Delegation: Take the Train

Since there will be no hard news from the Democratic convention tonight, expect the network news to spend a few minutes each showing Denver to the nation. Because the anchors and anchorines are from New York and have no idea that there are splendid cities between the coasts, expect them to be flabbergasted over what a splendid city they have landed in. Expect them to ride the extremely popular light rail and show a few shots of LoDo. Expect them also to interview Cincinnati’s mayoral cousin John Hickenlooper. Expect John Hickenlooper to leave an extremely favorable opinion as a personable, intelligent, adept, visionary mayor who loves his job and his city. The Mayor left a packed house weak-kneed when he visited the Mercantile left year. Leadership starved Cincinnatians wanted to take him home to Mother.

You can see who the Cincinnatians at the convention are here (PDF). This would be a great time to e-mail them if you know them – and even if you don’t – and tell them to be daring and ride the light rail while they’re out there. And to come back fired up about the possibilities of living in an optimistic metropolis.
