Covers from the Hall Collection

Rife though the sports world may be with bizarre body configurations, signals, traditions and other startling patterns of behavior, you will be hard pressed to find anything that compares in awkwardness to the agonized contortions of a cricket bowler. This business with keeping the arm straight is too much, bad enough that the maneuver begins with an orangutan lope, then builds into a spasm of torso and limbs, all perpetrated in a preppy, white ensemble. Could this sport really have begun with the reserved British? The above cover is yet another specimen of the boarding school genre which, we must assume, was popular with children who didn’t go to boarding school.                       -Ed Scripsi
