No, this is not about political opponents with opposite stances on the jail. It’s the best-selling work of a Hungarian writer whose liberal views placed him at odds with a couple of governments. A later book of Zilahy’s placed him at odds with a 1949 Time reviewer who said of it: “…nothing but a popular revolt against tinsel fiction can stop it from being equally successful in the U.S.”
