Back in the Saddle

You may be whiling away your work hours reading exciting internet stuff like Stacked, but somewhere amongst your connections there is someone of a certain age who will be surprisingly (to you in your sophistication) excited to know that there is a new Dick Francis book on the shelves, the first in six years. Dick Francis wrote in partnership with his wife. When she died, he thought he might not write again. But here he is.

Under Orders brings back Sid Halley, Francis’s jockey-turned-sleuth, this time dealing with new technical stuff like the internet and DNA. Okay, new to the world of English turf crime. Publisher’s Weekly says that Francis fans may find the plot “a little familiar” as though that were a problem. That will just make his fans’ hearts beat a little faster.
