There are many reasons to be pleased about the arrival of 21C up the street from the city’s most congenial cultural institution, especially the hiring of Eli Meiners, part of the Brashear Bolton, Inc. design team that brought out the best in the Mercantile reading room, as museum director. But right now we are most deeply pleased with the hotel’s enlightened decision to install half a dozen brushed-stainless-steel bicycle racks in the sidewalk. The rings were still wrapped when we spotted them this morning, and not all are in place, but what was there was enough to set us up for the rest of the week. Now we have to decide what our first drink will be on the first day we hitch the trusty Torker to one of those racks.
